Outer form and inner value

“Evening Talks” is a record of Sri Aurobindo’s talks with his disciples during the two periods, 1923-1926 and 1938-1943.

In the second chapter of the Gita, Arjuna asks Sri Krishna as to how does a person who is poised speak, sit and walk. This is a question which people have asked of spiritual personalities.

It is true that the inner or the spiritual is the essential and the outer derives its value and form from the inner.

The transformation which Sri Aurobindo talks about has to take place in our nature (mental, vital and physical). According to Him, the divine Reality has to manifest itself in nature. All the parts of the nature, including the physical and the external – are to be transformed.

When K.M.Munshi met Sri Aurobindo after nearly 40 years, he was deeply impressed by the radiating presence of Sri Aurobindo. Sri Aurobindo’s very physical had become the transparent mould of the Spirit.
