Meaning of AUM

A – Waking state – Gross layer – Make sound from your heart

U – Dream state – Subtle layer – Make sound from your throat

M – Deep Sleep state – Causal layer – Make sound from your head

Silence that follows AUM is the Pure Consciousness or Essence. This silence represents the Turiya state or the fourth state of consciousness.

It is said that the Absolute was an Ocean of Energy and in this ocean a sound or ripple vibrated. This ripple was “OM” and this is the concept of Ether (one of the five elements in Nature). This ripple which is OM is the beginning of all creation.
